Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Buzz-Wagon to Futuristic

Today's History Lesson...the automobile

Looking back at the first automobile models, it is amazing how far mechanics has evolved. Of course, as with anything, there must be a beginning...a thought, an idea, a dream. Examining the distance already traveled and the advancement of technology already realized makes one wonder what will emerge in the future. What indeed!

This Day in History: September 3, 1900

The first car ever made in Flint, Michigan was not the Model T Ford. It was actually a car designed by Charles H. Wisner which debuted 116 years ago in the Labor Day parade held September 3, 1900. Wisner was an honorable judge always seeking the truth so justice would prevail. Not only was he profoundly knowledgeable in the law but also known for his talents along mechanical lines and for his ability as an artist, a poet and a musician.

Wisners car, nicknamed the "Buzz Wagon," was a somewhat ridiculous contraption: it was "very noisy," according to The Flint Journal; its only door was in the rear; and it had no brakes. In order to stop, Wisner had to collide with something sturdy, usually the side wall of his machine shop. At the Labor Day parade, however, he didn't have a problem with the brakes; instead, in front of 10,000 spectators, the car stalled and had to be pushed off the parade route.
But it paved the way for future automobiles...

Futuristic cars - that's like something from sci-fi movies. But who knows what features future cars will have? Solar panels? Mood-sensors? Video-game controls? Built-in Segways? Click the image above or HERE for what car companies can create when not held back by any restrictions.
