August 30 is...
National Toasted Marshmallow Day
The thought of roasting marshmallows brings on additional thoughts: fire, bonfires, fire pits, camp fires. With either type of fire comes light within the darkness, tremendous heat, sound of crackling wood and that wonderful woodsy smell. For sure, the atmosphere is calming and brings on a lot of fun! Usually fall temperatures are more inviting for the 'fires' so since this is August, how about a few recipes that can be prepared within the air-conditioned kitchen?
Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream Recipe
In order to achieve that irresistible char on the marshmallows, here are a few options: toasting them with a kitchen torch, broiling them, or roasting them over a gas stove burner.
Sweet Potato Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow Frosting Recipe
Brown the frosting with a kitchen torch. Sprinkle lightly with additional brown sugar, if desired.
Toasted Marshmallow Milkshakes Recipe
On a foil-lined baking sheet, broil the marshmallows three minutes in a single layer half at a time. Transfer to a plate to cool at least two minutes.
Hot Cocoa Cake with Toasted Marshmallows RecipeBroil the marshmallows then melt them into a basic ice cream custard base.
Make the batter with hot cocoa mix, self-rising flour, an egg and veggie oil. That’s it! Top the cake with marshmallows, then, slightly toast them with a kitchen torch. You could also lightly toast them using a fork or skewer over a gas stove and then put them on the cake. The marshmallows melt the rest of the way into the warm cake.
That's more like it for 'getting toasty' in August!
