Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Peaches 'n' Cream

 for more celebration!

The celebration of National Peach Melba Day found a place on the January calendar. Coming in July will be Peach Ice Cream Day, while August boasts being National Peach Month and showcases Eat a Peach Day and National Peach Pie Day. That is a lot of down-to-earth, or more perfectly out-of-the-tree, 'peachy' celebrations! Since the peach is obviously the word of the day, let's celebrate peaches with cream.

Great day to visit

Music Top Pick of the Day...

Reuniting peaches 'n' cream feels as good as the popular song of the 70s recorded by none other than Peaches and Herb. Enjoy the music, enjoy the foodie fun!
The peach is a fuzzy, juicy summertime fruit packed with flavor and nutrition.

1. Peaches are grown commercially in 28 states of the USA. The top four peach-producing states are California, South Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey.
2. The first peach orchard in the USA was established in Florida in 1565.
3. The two basic types of peaches are clingstone and freestone. In clingstone peaches, the flesh “clings” to the “stone” of the peach, making it difficult to separate, thus, more suitable for processing. The pit of freestone peaches “freely” separates from the flesh, making it ideal for fresh consumption.
4. According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, in 2010, roughly 80% of processed peaches were canned and 16% were frozen.
5. Fresh market peaches are available beginning May through September.
6. The peach is a member of the rose family, and originated in China, which is the largest producer of peaches. There are over 700 varieties of the fruit.
7. A large peach has fewer than 70 calories, no saturated fat and contains 3 grams of fiber. It’s also a good source of vitamins A and C.
