Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

♫ The Boss♫

With success in the music industry comes titles, nicknames and labels that remain with a recording artist throughout his or her career. Often it is by this name the artist becomes overwhelmingly popular. Other times it is by song title that overpowers the charts whereby the artist goes on to become a music icon.

Today in Music History: June 4, 1984

Bruce Springsteen. Bruce Springsteen's working class roots in New Jersey are chronicled in his music and songs. He was inspired to take up music when he, at the age of seven, saw Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show (1948). When he was 13, he bought his first guitar for $18. His mother took out a loan when Bruce was 16 and bought him a Kent guitar for $60. Springsteen served as a pivotal figure in the evolution of popular music with his rise to prominence in the mid-70s.

1984 Bruce Springsteen released the album, 'Born In The USA', which became the best-selling album of 1985 in the United States (and also Springsteen's most successful album ever). The album produced a record-tying string of seven Top 10 singles (tied with Michael Jackson's Thriller and Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814).
Bruce Springsteen has been The Boss since long before "Born in the U.S.A." was released on June 4, 1984. But it was that album, which would go on to sell 30 million copies and spawn seven top 10 singles, that made him America's pre-eminent rock icon, an arena-ready showstopper.

Tidbit of Springsteen's Biography...
An outsider and recluse in school, Springsteen frequently got in trouble at his Catholic elementary school. "In the third grade, a nun stuffed me in a garbage can under her desk because she said that's where I belonged," he said. "I also had the distinction of being the only altar boy knocked down by a priest during mass." Several years later, he skipped his own high school graduation because he felt too uncomfortable to attend.

And the music goes on beating to the rhythm of the changing times...
