You can add delicious topping like fruit sauce, nuts, chocolate chips, coconut or whipped cream and you will love it just as much as you love ice cream. Yogurt is a bit tart in taste but a lot lower in fat. Frozen yogurt is a healthier alternative to ice cream."
Frozen yogurt, aka "froyo" or "fro-yo", did not become exceedingly popular until the 1980s. Being first introduced in the 1970s as a healthier alternative to ice cream, its taste and consistency differed greatly from today's frozen yogurts. Complaints, especially about its tartness, deterred its popularity. Thus, manufacturers were persuaded to 'get to work' on finding a more worthwhile recipe that could be truly enjoyable. Its comeback in the 80s definitely was attributable to its taste! Hey! If it is to be eaten, shouldn't it taste good?
Frozen yogurt as a healthier alternative to ice cream may be debatable in today's society. This thought is attributable to the "self-serve" locations, which not only offer the freshly frozen treat in a variety of flavors but also an abundance of toppings. After loading down a cup of the frozen yogurt with brownie bits, cookie dough, cheesecake bites, crisp cereal, chocolate chunks, assorted crushed candies, fresh fruit, raisins and nuts slathered with chocolate or caramel sauce makes one wonder just how healthy the final product has become. Perhaps the overindulgence of the topsters is okay since the yogurt itself is healthier than ice cream, fewer calories and little or no fat.
