Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Sugar shock!

For this next celebration, we must all be careful to avoid sugar shock! Too much of such a good thing in any one single day is not the best idea. So true but definitely difficult advice to follow. There are simple candies and gourmet candy, old-fashioned candy made by hand, and specialty candies crafted by experts who design each piece with TLC.

Tidbit of Candy Trivia...
Did you know the average American eats twenty-five pounds of candy each year? That may seem like a lot, but the average person in Denmark eats thirty-six pounds each year!
November 4 is...
National Candy Day

All I really need is love, but a little candy now and then doesn't hurt!
- Charles Schulz

The word for the day is candy, which is NOT just for the kids! Candy is a favorite treat all around the world and Americans over the age of 18 eat about 65% of all the candy produced each year.

 A Bit of Candy History...

Humans have been eating candies and sweet confections for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians preserved nuts and fruits in honey, and the Aztecs and Mayans consumed chocolate during religious rituals as early as 300 AD.

There are thousands of different types of candy, all with their own unique history. For example, did you know that Tootsie Rolls were created by Leo Hirshfield of New York in 1896? He named them after his daughter, who was nicknamed "Tootsie."

Is your mouth watering yet?
