Welcome to Awakenings
Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.
It's pretty cool to uncover a quick fact on the day when that subject is being celebrated. Not only does today mark a monumental day in history but it has achieved its own day of celebration. July 20 is...
47 years ago, Apollo 11 blasted off into history. On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched from Cape Kennedy Space Center atop
a huge Saturn V rocket. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module, nicknamed the
"Eagle", touched down on the surface of the moon at Tranquility Base.
Upon landing, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong reported "The Eagle Has
Landed." A few hours later, Neil Armstrong, stepped off of the Eagle's ladder,
placed one foot upon the moon's surface and proclaimed: "That's one small
step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
The Apollo Space program, begun by President John F. Kennedy, was created
to put the first man on the moon. Apollo 11 fulfilled that dream, carrying
astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin, Jr. What
an amazing, historic event! A total of 24astronauts were launched to the Moon, three of them twice, in the four years spanning December 1968 - December 1972.
This event was reported by NASA as being “… the single greatest technological achievement of all time…”.
There have been many conspiracy theories, discrepancies and reported myths about whether this event was real or staged.
