Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Fruitcake, Cherries & Chocolate

Good morning! Today is January 3, the third day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. There are 363 days remaining until the end of the year since 2016 is a leap year. Lots of time to work on those New Year's resolutions, one of which hopefully is NOT to limit your chocolate indulgence. In fact, research has proven chocolate beneficial for you...eaten in moderation, of course. Many experts recommend eating one or two ounces of dark chocolate every day!

Before we delve into the chocolate madness, are you one who has leftover fruitcake? Perhaps you baked one for the family but you are the only one who eats it or maybe you received one as a gift with it still taking up space either on the kitchen counter, the table or in the freezer. That is, if you have not already given it away by taking advantage of The Most Popular Regift! If you do still have that fruitcake on hand, are you ready to get rid of it? Well, get ready for January 3 is...
Fruitcake Toss Day
This is not your ordinary throw the ol' fruitcake into the trash day! Ever been skeet shooting? Replace the clay targets with fruitcakes!

The first Fruitcake Toss Day was celebrated in Manitou Springs, Colorado in 1995 where it is still celebrated today.
