Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Pop the Cork!

Cheers! The word of the day...not for toasting your favorite cocktail but in celebration of a product that comes from fermented grapes and has been around for thousands upon thousands of years. It is refreshing, relaxing, fruity, offered in celebratory events and used in religious ceremonies. Surprisingly enough it also has health benefits when enjoyed in moderation.

February 18 is...

Pop the cork and enjoy a refreshing glass of Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot, Shiraz, Zinfandel or whatever your choice in honor of the occasion!
Wine has been around for at least 9000 years according to recorded history. It has been noted as the drink for kings, forbidden for paupers, and fuel for a bachelorette party. Some say it was discovered by accident with the consumption of fermented grapes resulting in intoxication. This led to experimentation which led to more and more wine production. The methods for making wine varied and spread from Mesopotamia to Egypt, Greece, Rome, France, Spain, and eventually the New World. Today, over 20 million acres of the earth's surface are dedicated to the growing of grapes! Research shows drinking a glass of wine a day (4 - 8 oz) improves heart health, reduces forgetfulness, boosts immunity and increases bone density.
Not a wine drinker? Improvise...some of the best recipes call for cooking with wine! (The alcohol dissipates during the cooking process.)
