Summer is rapidly coming to a close but temperatures are still HOT! That being the case begs treats and snacks that are a bit on the cool side...icees, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, cones, sodas, floats, banana splits and sundaes, frozen yogurt, creamsicles, etc. Of course, that is just the beginning of a really long list. A Bit of Popsicle History...
In 1905, eleven-year-old Frank Epperson from San Francisco, California invented the popular hot weather treat, the Popsicle as we know it today. However, the invention supposedly came about as a pure accident! According to the Popsicle company, one cold evening Frank left a mixture of powder flavored soda water with a stir stick in it on the porch. It is rather interesting to note Popsicle is a trademarked name, not a generic term. Yet, whether bought in a grocery, convenience store or made at home, the icy concoction on a stick is almost always referred to as a 'popsicle' no matter what its brand may be.
