First Ice Cream Cone

Continuing with the month of July being Ice Cream Month, it would do ice cream an injustice to not include a bit of trivia about the ice cream cone. No one knows the actual inventor of this flavorlicious holder of ice cream. Paper and metal cones had been used in Europe for some time to hold ice cream and it was known that edible cones were being served in England prior to its coming to America. As for its debut in America, this happenstance was quite by accident at the St. Louis World's Fair not long after the turn of the century. In fact, it was on this date in 1904. Children who attended the fair were the first ones in the world to eat this delicious treat.

The story goes that when the ice cream vendor ran out of paper cups and spoons, he put the ice cream in a rolled up waffle that the man in the next booth was selling -and an invention was born --
