Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Real or Art? 3-D

On Thursday, October 18, Awakenings featured Real or Art? The article focused on street art photography which exposes graffiti in a totally different light. It brings to life art in its purest form found all over the world, in the countryside, in small towns, in capital cities, some in plain view, others hidden waiting to be discovered. This type of photography will change your view the next time you see doodles, scrawls and scribbles on a wall or anywhere for that matter.

Today, let's delve into street art in 3-D! Awesome concept! Where wall murals invite you to "walk right into the picture," 3-D allows you to become part of the picture! Today's first featured artist is the Russian-born German street artist Nikolaj-Arndt. . .

"Walk"
Ever envision walking a lion or
riding the back of a tiger?

"Street Tiger"
Arndt is a street artist who lives in Germany, and he paints trompe l'oeil -- French for "fools the eye" -- pictures on floors and sidewalks, giving the illusion that his art is popping up out of the surfaces he draws on. A glimpse of his amazing skill can be viewed on the blog Laughing Squid.

Our second featured artist is Julian Beever from Cheltenham, UK.
Anamorphic illusions are drawn in a special distortion in order to create an impression of 3 dimensions when seen from one particular viewpoint. In other words, each drawing must be seen from one special viewpoint and if the viewer moves from it, the illusion is lost and the drawing becomes an unrecognizable distortion.
"My work appeals literally to the man (and woman) in the street and is not confined in galleries or limited by the gallery system".~Julian Beever

Third, but by no means last, is Edgar Müller born in Mülheim/Ruhr who grew up in the rural city of Straelen on the western edge of Germany. His fascination with painting began in his childhood, with paintings of rural scenes of Straelen.
Edgar Müller is, "one of the world's top 3-D illusionist street painters,", he is, "one of the best known street painters in the world thanks to his YouTube videos", and has been featured as "Maestro Madonnaro" at the Sarasota Chalk Festival. Wikipedia

  1. Illusion is reality is illusion. You never know unless you can feel or touch or experience a situation. You can't just trust one of your senses. Actually, your sixth sense is the most reliable.

  4. Unbelievable. It just shows how our perceptions are deceptive and prompts us to question everything our senses tell us. Excellent art.
