This is our land, my land and your land, to be honored in reverence of those who fought and died to make her free, in tribute to those who are still fighting today to maintain that freedom, and in regard to those who are yet to fight to see that freedom is never lost.
Flashback in Time:
Woody Guthrie in 1943. Wikipedia |
This Land is Your Land is an iconic folk song written by Woody Guthrie in 1940. Many renditions have been re-recorded by numerous vocal artists, i.e., Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Trini Lopez, Jay and the Americans, The New Christy Minstrels, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bruce Springsteen, and Pete Seeger.
Connecting the past to the present. . .
With its latest release by Neil Young and Crazy Horse on June 5, 2012, the empowerment of this song still weighs heavy in the hearts and souls of America.
Jason Harrod tried to do what Neil did and make "This Land is Your Land" his own. There's something healing about driving down the highway beside someone you love, letting the land wash over you at 65 miles per hour.

I like this post, and I like your blog, Sharla. I can't promise I'll read everything you post, but when I read something, I'll comment on it. I love the introduction to this blog, too! Be seein ya on down the road!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by! I truly understand about the visits...I visit as many as I can, try to Like and comment when needed. I don't make to all everyday:>)
ReplyDeleteSharla, you always please me with your posts. Jarrod, however, doesn't. I just hate when someone changes words and tunes to iconic patriotic songs. Why don't they just make up their own and leave the original the way it was originally done? It doesn't say from the New York City (he added city, why?). Anyway, if Neil Young messed it up too, I'm glad I haven't heard it. Wow, I'm really complaining here, better stop! Anyway, I love your posts Sharla, they make me happy! Have a blessed evening!
ReplyDeleteHi, Deirdre. No, you are not complaining at all, just being honest and that is what you should be! I always welcome your visits - today and any day!
