National Four Prunes Day
Prunes are more than likely NOT one of your #1 choices. Yet, if you were given a plum, you would probably grab it and go "yum!" Did you know a prune is any of various plum cultivars sold as fresh or dried fruit? Still not sold on the prune?
Remember the ol' adage An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Forget about the apple. The new fruit is the prune and you don't just eat one. One is not enough! According to research, you need to eat four a day. Why?
In 2000, the Food and Drug Administration granted the California Prune Board permission to use “dried plums” as an alternative name to prunes. Why the name change? Because 90% of consumers told us that they’d be more likely to enjoy the fruit if it were called a dried plum instead of a prune.
