Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

June 21 is...

 Daylight Appreciation Day
(Summer Solstice)

Long before it got its name, Daylight Appreciation Day was one of the oldest and most universal celebrations on earth. Continue the tradition by taking time to celebrate something much bigger – and brighter – than ourselves!

Appropriately timed around the summer solstice, Daylight Appreciation Day is a perfect excuse for staying up late. Outside is the only place to really appreciate the sunset, so invite friends for some open-air music, a barbecue or just hanging out anywhere with a good view. A camping trip into the Great Outdoors adds an excuse for another traditional midsummer ritual: a blazing, all-night campfire. In many countries, some people stay up until morning, partying through the shortest of the “white nights”.

The evidence of the power of the sun is everywhere. It keeps our solar system together, provides warmth for all living things to grow and gives us beautiful light to see the wonders of the earth. Without it we would not exist. It would be easy to forget, in all of the sun’s majesty, that it not only provides important benefits for the earth, but for the people who live here as well.
On Make Music Day, people all around the world come together to celebrate the incredible power of music. The benefits of music for the human soul are intangible, yet immense. Music opens up new worlds for people. It can be used to tell stories, to inspire, or to offer a mode for relaxation. Its calming, soothing effects can put out the flames of anger or the passionate love songs can heat up the hour!

For this celebration, follow catnipoflife, listen to life’s songs! That includes Singing in the Shower! As catnip puts it...

Can you imagine a world without music? It would be a world void of colors and textures, thus soulless. There would be no form, no expression. Thank goodness we have music or life would be a total bore, empty, useless. Music is all around us with melodies whispering in the wind, carrying along the harmonies of the songbirds. Each note captures the human heart penetrating deep into the soul leading to some of the best compositions imaginable.

The perfect way to celebrate this day is to make your own music, by yourself or with friends. You don’t have to be a musician, because anyone can make music. If you have children, they will love something as simple as banging on pots and pans and singing. (Um-m-m-m? That could be a bit nerve racking!) If you can’t play an instrument, you can get together for a night of karaoke with friends. And even if you have no musical talent whatsoever, you can spend the day listening to your favorite songs. The great thing about music is that there is some kind of music for everyone.

Go Skateboarding Day, held on June 21 every year, is the official holiday of skateboarding. The holiday began June 21, 2004 as an excuse for skateboarders to make skateboarding their top priority. Go Skateboarding Day began with a few simple skate sessions and bar-b-ques held in skateboarding’s unofficial capital, Southern California....

...Go Skateboarding Day originated as the day for skateboarders to have fun, to raise awareness about the issues we face; to show the world what skateboarding is really all about; to reclaim our culture; and to define skateboarding as the rebellious, creative celebration of independence it continues to be. In the years since that first celebration, the holiday continues to grow, but the mission remains the same: Have fun, go skateboarding.

Go skateboarding on Daylight Appreciation Day!
Just be sure to wear a helmet with earphones for your favorite music!
