Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Chocolate Sensation

Are you a chocoholic...just can't seem to make it through the day without the aroma, flavor, satisfaction of some type of chocolate sensation? Whether you crave it or slightly indulge, chocolate has a way of ... putting it simply ... just making you feel good! It puts a smile on your face, eases your mind and lifts your spirits as life pauses to take in all of its emotions.

December 5 is...

Sacher Torte Day

Torte? Ever heard of it? Let's begin with a series of questions. Do you like cake? If you do, you need to know the difference between cake and a torte. A torte is considered a cake but not in the same sense as you might understand cake made with flour. The prior link goes into detail but in short, the torte is a much denser cake since most cakes use cake flour while tortes will often call for the addition of ground nut meal or breadcrumbs. Be sure to have a lot of whipped cream on hand since this cake's density tends to make it a bit dry. For today's celebration, let's take a trip to Vienna where it all started in the 19th century.

A bit of "Sacher Torte" History: A Piece of Vienn
The Original Sacher-Torte has been the most famous cake in the world since 1832 and the original recipe remains a well-kept secret of our hotel. Only the Original Sacher-Torte is produced according to this original recipe. The basis of the entire confection is a chocolate cake, thinly coated by hand with best-quality apricot jam. The chocolate icing on top of it is the crowning glory. It tastes best with a portion of unsweetened whipped cream. Source: A Piece of Vienna
