Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

On the Road to Independence

Numerous renowned leaders symbolize past greatness undeniably instrumental in founding America’s freedom.
Of these, there were several who went on to become
president of the United States of America.

Had it not been for the faith and courage of our forefathers
America would not be an independent nation
but would have remained under British rule.

Whisperings from the Past

Which would you rather it be -
Rule under oppression and tyranny
Or enjoying the land of the free?

What memorable day
Do you recall
One that ended in smiles
Or made you bawl?

What event in time
Took your breath away
Left its mark
To eternally stay?

Do you remember
Being much displeased
Completely perplexed
Not at all at ease?

What fires remain
Heavy of heart
That need to flame
For a new start?

What do you value
Of life’s small treasures
Beauty you walk in
Or worldly measures?

As you reflect back
On times long past
What keystones instill
Values first, not last?

  2. Sharla,

I liked this poem. I'm still attached to rhyming poems although I've written and sold a few that had a good enough meter than they seems to rhyme but didn't. I hope to see more f your poetry.
