The PB&F

You are definitely familiar with the PB&J. Aren't we all! But, what about the PB&F, which centers around peanut butter and marshmallows? Either of these are great snacks. If you take into account the miniature marshmallows, they are both small enough to pop a few in your mouth at one time. Eat them along with peanuts or peanut butter and your taste buds sense the delight of the salty with the sweet.

Wait a minute! How do peanut butter and marshmallows fit into PB&F? PB = peanut butter but there is no 'f' in marshmallows. Um-m-m-m? Where does the 'm' fit the picture? Easy answer. The marshmallows are actually marshmallow cream which is also known as 'fluff'. Mystery solved! On to the celebration of guess what? Fluffernutter!

October 8 is...

National Fluffernutter Day
The Classic

vs.

The Grilled

National Fluffernutter Day honors the classic peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwich on white bread. Right away don't confuse this sandwich with Elvis Presley's favorite. For Elvis, he preferred the peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich. Wonder if he ever added the marshmallow cream? Hey, give it a try! It just might become the Elvis Extra!
The sandwich was first created in the early twentieth century after marshmallow creme, a sweet marshmallow-like spread, was invented in Massachusetts. During World War I, a recipe for a peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwich, the earliest known example of the sandwich, was published. The term “fluffernutter” was created by an advertising agency in 1960 as a more effective way to market the sandwich. [Source: wikipedia.org

The sugary sweet combo is particularly popular in New England (an homage, perhaps, to its roots). There’s currently a bill on the docket that would designate the Fluffernutter as the official sandwich of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Never had one? Today's the day to give something different a try!
