On the First Sunday in August...

Almost everyone knows someone they refer to as 'friend'. It may be a relationship that has lasted since childhood, a few years, couple of months or it may be a new acquaintance with whom you have recently learned you share something in common. Regardless of the time, that someone holds a special place where anything can be shared that cannot be shared with others. Friendship Day is a day to show appreciation, love and affection toward those held dear and is always celebrated on the first Sunday in August.
Start the day by getting in touch with some old friends. Start early. Chances are, they know it's Friendship Day. You want to beat them to the punch, and contact them first. Phone calls, emails, E-cards, are great tools.  See if you can make plans for lunch on this day, or another day (soon).
Then, catch up to some of your current pals and buddies. Make sure to do some interesting things with them before the day is through. As you go through the day, be ever vigilant to spot an opportunity to make a new friend. Finding new friends today, is a real feather in your cap.
Will you be my friend?

Forgiveness Day is a time to forgive and to be forgiven. Wouldn't you agree there's enough trouble and strife in the world already? A forgiveness day can't do any harm and surely could contribute to making the world a much better place. What about two such days? Yep! There are two groups that lay claim to a Forgiveness Day in the month of August with both being international or world events.
International Forgiveness Day was created by the World Forgiveness Alliance, a non-denominational, educational foundation. According to their website: " International Forgiveness Day dedicated to evoking the healing power of forgiveness worldwide." The founder is Robert W. Plath, from Mill Valley, California. Its celebration takes place on the first Sunday in August.
Global Forgiveness Day began in 1994. It was created and is sponsored by the Christian Embassy of Christ's Ambassadors. This holiday originated in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and is celebrated on August 27.
Take a few moments to sincerely forgive someone. And, make it public. That way forgiveness will spread.

For those fortunate enough to have a sister, the first Sunday in August is set aside just for you! As for me, I never had a sister but do have three daughters. They will definitely attest to life with a sister. Good times, happy times, sad times, bad times...all are a part of life but bottom line, they will always be sisters.
Sisters Day is your chance (if you have a sister, that is) to show your appreciation for that special family relationship. All siblings have the odd argument here and there, but deep down there’s little way around the natural bond of siblings.

Make this day a special celebration for your sister, by however you feel is best. If you don’t have a sister, you can still celebrate the friendships of sisterhood by having a girl’s night out!
Which do you think you will celebrate or are you one to take them all on? Either way, simply ENJOY the day!
