Supercubing

Today's History Lesson

A huge part of history is that of invention. With imagination comes innovation which leads to the creation of some really cool 'stuff'. Some are designed with specific purposes in mind with the end product basically reaching the intended goal. Others go above and beyond. Then, there are those that totally take the inventor by surprise leaving original intents behind as destiny plays its hand.

This Day in History: May 19, 1974

The 40th Anniversary of the Rubik's Cube was celebrated on this day in 2014 with the coolest Google Doodle ever being in the spotlight. That would make this little game 42 today and it is still one of the world's most famous puzzle games. Have you beat the little fellow? Even a three-year old can do it!

The History of the Rubik's Cube is quite interesting since it was not created with the intentions of being a toy at all. Instead, it's design was purposed to serve as a model in explaining three-dimensional geometry. It's destiny was, however, to be a toy but without expectation of becoming the little 'cube' that changed the world! Its popularity led to the world of supercubing.

Mats Valk from the Netherlands completed the puzzle in 5.55 seconds.

This beat the previous record of 5.66 seconds held by Australia’s Feliks Zemdegs.

Solving the Rubik's Cube is not always about speed. Sometimes style just has to take over...show off! Hey, don't get me wrong. If I could solve it, I would gladly show off my skills! Woo-hoo!
