Snails, anyone?

There are always some foods that just don't tempt the palate from first mention or sight on the menu. Perhaps it is just the thought of such possibilities actually being edible. This is true for some raw and some cooked.

Escargot is the generic term for any edible snail.

Escargot is the French generic term for edible "snails". If someone invited you to their house for "snails", you just might turn them down. Yet, if you were offered Escargot as an appetizer at a fancy dinner party, you probably would take them on with a smile.
  • Snails have been around as food since prehistoric times.
  • Snails are high in protein and low in fat.
  • Snails are a good source of Potassium, Vitamin E, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Copper & Selenium.

Delicious Escargot Dishes (Recipes)
The most common way we see escargot prepared in the U.S. are as appetizers. The snails are removed from their shells and cooked in butter (usually with lots of garlic). They are then placed back in their shells, or placed in special escargot dishes, and served with the garlic butter and crusty bread for dipping.
 If you have never been a fan of snails, take a chance on National Escargot Day. Be brave. You just may like what you taste!
