Now that you know today is 'Pearl' of a Day (Oyster Day), let's move along to what else is being celebrated. Perhaps there might be away to tie the two together. Second up... (and it doesn't stop here!)

National Hoagie Day was created to give us a special day to enjoy and celebrate a big, tasty sandwich. You know of this big sandwich as a hoagie, a submarine, a sub, a po-boy or a hero depending upon the bread and geography. And, it's a regular on most diets in America. People eat them for lunch, dinner, even as a late night snack. It's a quick meal for people on the go. 
Generally, a hoagie is a sandwich that consists of a long roll of Italian or French bread, split widthwise either into two pieces or opened in a "V" on one side, then filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, seasonings, sauces, whatever you like. The sandwich has no standardized name, and many U.S. regions have their own names for it; one study found 13 different names for the sandwich in the United States.

Regardless of the name by which it is called, it is very popular partly due to the diversity and variety of its contents. It can be hot or cold, luncheon meat or meatballs, and will usually contain some type of cheese, or any of a variety of cheeses. Pile it high with any number and combinations of extras!
Celebrate National Hoagie Day by eating a Hoagie for at least one meal or a snack. Make or buy your favorite hoagie. Or, be adventurous and try a new combination. Add fried oysters and celebrate Oyster Day!
