USO...More Than Just Entertainment!

Yesterday, February 4, was the USO's 75th birthday! There is a lot of history behind the creation and continuation of the USO. Its "camp shows" officially launched on October 30, 1941 set the stage for the USO’s tradition of bringing entertainment to service members around the world boosting the moral of soldiers far and wide. The USO has broadened its horizons beyond entertainment but always toward the same goal: Support of our military troops until every one comes home.

Today in History: February 5, 2013

A few years back, the USO launched Operation Enduring Care to build two special USO centers and endow the USO Warrior and Family Care programs that help our wounded, ill and injured troops on their road to recovery and quest to live fulfilling lives.
Thanks to generous donors, the USO Warrior and Family Centers became a reality. The center - which opened Feb. 5, 2013 - is a first-of-its-kind place for wounded, ill and injured troops and their families and caregivers to relax away from the stresses of the hospital while they recover. The center also offers transition opportunities troops who will be leaving the military after recovery, giving them a chance to learn new skills, take college courses and attend workshops that prepare them for a civilian job search.

A message home...
During World War II, military personnel could record a message
onto a phonograph album and mail it home.

From us to them...
