Super Bowl Nostalgia

The countdown has already begun with Super Bowl 50 hot on our heels, so let's turn our attention to Super Bowls past. If you are a huge fan that has kept up with the Super Bowl through the years, get ready to filter through some of the cobwebs of your mind as some great memories are released back into the light.

Before stepping back in time, take a good look at this year's Super Bowl logo. Do you notice something out of the ordinary?  The Roman Empire has fallen...again! Super Bowl 50 will be the first bowl year without the Roman numerals since they entered into play with Super Bowl V in 1971. Think about it: Which is more eye-catching, the single Roman numeral L or the Arabic numeral 50? The answer is a no-brainer! Check out The Super Bowl and Roman Numerals...

At Awakenings, This Day in History: February 3, 2008 highlighted Superbowl XLII, which is recognized as one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
The game of February 3, 2008 faced off the New York Giants against the New England Patriots. When the Patriots arrived at Super Bowl XLII, they were already billed as the greatest team in NFL history. But history had a different ending to the story than that which was predicted.
Of course, the Super Bowl is NOT just about the game...

There are the Super Bowl Commercials...

Each year there are always a few brand name brands whose commercials are among those which are awaited in anticipation. One of these is the Doritos commercial for this commercial is featured as the winner of many created and submitted by the fans! Who will be this year's winner? My pick is the dogs...you just can't beat a commercial with the animals as center stage!
 The National Anthem...
It is FACT not just anyone can sing the National Anthem successfully. This has been proven over and over again with a faux pas being remembered just as well as the tear jerker. Then, there is THE one...the only one...that simply beats them all. The prelude to this one says "few have topped the one delivered by Whitney Houston before Super Bowl XXV in 1991 in Tampa." It should say NONE have topped the one...
 The Halftime Shows...
Halftime shows are a tradition during American football games at all levels of competition. But for the Super Bowl, they have become the epitome of competition. Prior to Super Bowls of the 90s halftimes featured marching bands, drill teams and performance ensembles surrounding a definitive theme. Beginning in 1991, the halftime show began to feature pop music acts, such as New Kids on the Block and Gloria Estefan. One of the best performances occurred at Super Bowl XXVII on January 31, 1993 by none other than the "King of Pop"!
Are you hyped? Get ready! Get set! Let's play football...
