♫Making #Music Memories - 2016♫

The moment a song hits the airways it begins to make memories. The lyrics, the rhythm, the melody are deeply ingrained within heart and mind as one-by-one each note, each word, each moment emotionally connects with the other.

Today we are ending the first week of January, 1/4 of the month, 1/52 of the year gone, ready to see who steps into the first spotlight of 2016. Before recognizing the first for the new year let's step back to this same time last year. The first No.1 spotlight for 2015 shone brightly on Taylor Swift's hit single 'Blank Space'.

2015 'Blank Space' blasted from No.13 to the No. 1 spot with its 7th week at the top placing it the first No.1 of 2015. The song finds Swift sending up her image as a heartbreaker who writes all of her songs about former boyfriends. She warns us that she's "got a long list of ex-lovers, they'll tell you I'm insane" plus she has, "a blank space baby, and I'll write your name."
The song stayed in the top ten for 17 weeks including the song's seven week reign at the chart's top spot, making it Swift's second longest time lingering in the top ten, bested only by "Shake It Off" which spent 24 weeks in the chart's top ten

Welcome into the 2016 Spotlight...

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, aka Adele: a throwback, soulful sound made this recording artist an international success

After shattering records left and right with her third album, Adele has announced that she will be taking her act on the road for an Adele Live tour in 2016. In the meantime, she is holding the first No.1 spot in 2016 with her album 25.

2016 Adele broke records at the end of 2015 with the release of her album 25. Now, to kick off the new year, her smash song "Hello" has joined the elite list of hits to log 10 or more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Adele's "Hello" is just the 31st of 1,048 total Hot 100 leaders to reign for double-digit weeks.[Source: billboard.com]
There are records (music) to be made and records (stats) to be broken! 25 has already sold at least 2.433 million in slightly more than three days.
Memories Through the Decades...

  •
1952 The biggest hit version of Churchill Kohlman's 'Cry' was performed by Johnnie Ray, one of the greatest of the transition singers between the crooners and the rockers. The song remained at No.1 for 11 weeks.
  • “I want to make music for everyone. It’s meant to give people pleasure. If it doesn’t, it’s failed in its purpose.” (Bert Kaempfert)
1961 Bert Kaempfert started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Wonderland By Night'. Kaempfert produced The Beatles first recording session when they were in Hamburg.
  •
1970 B.J. Thomas and the hit single 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' remained in the No.1 spot for 4 weeks. Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote this song for the film Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It was the first million-seller for the legendary songwriters. This won the Oscar for Best Song From A Motion Picture at the 1970 awards, where Thomas performed it. Bacharach also won for Best Score.

  • 1988 Whitney Houston scored another consecutive No.1 in the US with 'So Emotional'. This was one of seven consecutive singles Houston released that hit #1 in the US. No one else has done that. Click HERE for Whitney Houston's No. 1 songs.

  • 1994 When Mariah Carey recorded 'Hero', she did not like the song at first, feeling it was too sappy. After receiving letters from fans claiming it touched their lives, she came to realize that it was a very powerful song and appreciate it for the feelings it brings out in people. The song remained at No. 1 for four weeks.
  • 2001 Destiny's Child with 'Independent Women Part 1' reached the top of the charts remaining at No. 1 for 11 weeks. The biggest hit of 2000, this song followed the winning formula of accessible Hip-Hop/Dance attached to a blockbuster movie. In the late-'90s, this was the forte of Will Smith, who did it with "Men In Black" (1997) and "Wild Wild West" (1999). "Independent Women" was featured in the movie Charlie's Angels; the stars of the film, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu, are mentioned in the song.

Amy Winehouse's trademark beehive and tattoos helped earn her second place in the list.
