♫Female Entertainer of the Century♫

The 70s was a very influential, massive decade when it comes to music. Why? The most attributable factor might possibly be the ever developing music scene. Gone were the peace and love themes of the 60s. Very little separation occurred between different genres, all seemed to interact, draw from one another. Technology was continuously evolving, actually ground breaking, influencing music greatly. Relaxing music, dance music and rock music were all a big part of the 70s. Along with the transition into the 70s, many artists broke away from groups formed in earlier decades to claim success as soloists. Such is the case with the mega recording artist in this spotlight.

Despite personal and professional ups and downs, Diana Ross has withstood the test of time as a performer with a career that spans more than four decades. Beside ventures in Broadway, Ross was named the "Female Entertainer of the Century" by Billboard magazine. In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Ross the most successful female music artist in history due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any female artist in the charts with a career total of 70 hit singles with her work with the Supremes and as a solo artist. Ross has sold more than 140 million records worldwide when her releases with the Supremes and as a solo artist are tallied. [Source: wikipedia.org]

A screening committee for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences initially rules the song is not good enough to be considered for an Oscar. The decision is rescinded and it gets a nomination.
