The Little 'Cube" that Changed the World

Today is...

40th Anniversary of the Rubik's Cube

“If you are curious, you’ll find the puzzles around you. If you are determined, you will solve them. ” Erno Rubik

*****

Quite by accident the Rubik's Cube has become one of the world's most famous puzzle games. It was not created with the intention of becoming a game 'toy' but to serve as a model in explaining three-dimensional geometry. Little did Erno Rubik, a Hungarian inventor, architect and professor of architecture, know the impact his little 'cube' would have on the world.

Fastest single time: The current world record was set on a 3 x 3 x 3 Rubik's Cube by Mats Valk of the Netherlands in March 2013. He set a time of 5.55 seconds at the Zonhoven Open in Belgium.

Grab a cube today and test your solving ability! Don't have one? Just go to Google for the 3-D interactive version of the Rubik's Cube!

Today Google launched one of its coolest doodles yet: a 3-D interactive Rubik’s Cube. Built thanks to advances in CSS and a few smart design tricks, it’s one of the most challenging doodles the company has done so far. It’s also one of the most well-timed. May 19—5/19—honors the roughly 519 quintillion possible configurations of the iconic puzzle.

How many times have you outsmarted the 'cube'?
