Sound + Mu-sic • myu-zik • myoo-zik

Today in Music History: May 13

There is sound and there is music! Because of the diversity in melody and rhythm what the ear perceives as music by one is not necessarily music to another. There are harmonious chords and dissonant chords. Yet, there is always some form of 'music' for anyone and everyone. My, my, my, how the tunes and sounds do vary!

The Essence-of-New Orleans Tune
1938 . . ."When the Saints Go Marching In" was recorded by Louis Armstrong and his Orchestra. The spirit of New Orleans flows over, under, around and through a melody that puts a smile on your face and starts the foot tapping to its unique rhythmic beat.

1971 . . . On his twenty- first birthday Stevie Wonder received all his childhood earnings. His contract with Motown expired this day and the royalties set aside for him in a trust fund became available. Despite having earned $30 million so far, he received only $1 million. Poor Stevie!

1974 . . . Forty-three people were arrested and more than fifty were injured after youths started throwing bottles outside a Jackson Five concert at RFK stadium in Washington DC.

Is this music?????

Does this put a spell on you?????

Now this is music!!!!!
1993 . . .The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bette Midler and Barry White were guest voices on the season finale of the "The Simpsons." The episode was entitled "Krusty Gets Kancelled."

This is why I prefer the oldies but goodies!
2000 . . .Shaun Ryder's (the potty-mouthed, drug-using leader of the Happy Mondays) Volkswagen Corrado was found abandoned after being used as the getaway car. The car was used in an armed robbery on Harry Ramsden's fish and chip restaurant in Manchester. £7,000 cash was taken in the robbery.

And the music goes on beating to the rhythm, of the changing times...
