Blondie Boopadoop

This Day in History: February 17, 1933

If I only presented the name Blondie, would you know to whom I am referring? If you did not pay close attention to the date of this day in history, 1933, your first thought might shine a light on the American Rock Band, Blondie. So, keeping the date in mind, let's add a last name, Boopadoop, for a clearer picture? Does that shed a brighter light? Um-m-m-m? Blondie Boopadoop?

What about a real picture instead of relying on a mental image? This will help all you folks who are visually inclined... It is always better to put a face to a name!

The comic strip Blondie, distributed by King Features Syndicate, has been published in newspapers since September 8, 1930 and later became a hit on radio, television and in films. It was on this day, February 17, 1933 when the marriage took place between Blondie Boopadoop, the tile role and flapper in the comic strip and Dagwood Bumstead, millionaire heir and playboy. Of course, Dagwood as we know him in the comic strip never became a millionaire and his playboy days ended when he met Blondie. Click below for a synopsis of their romance as depicted by the daughter of its creator cartoonist Chic Young.

The two unlikely misfits tied the matrimonial knot
in the memorable comic strip wedding scene of February 17, 1933.
Blondie's marriage marked the beginning of a change in her personality. From that point forward, she gradually assumed her position as the sensible head of the Bumstead household. And Dagwood, who previously had been cast in the role of straight man to Blondie's comic antics, took over as the comic strip's clown.
