60s Music Revolution

Welcome to the 60s:
A music revolution, an era of triumph for popular music, an Afro-American model in the forefront, & the emergence of this music as a universal language, with the Beatles as the heroes of the age

One of the first things that come to mind when thinking of the music scene in the 1960s is the “British Invasion.” This marks the era where music groups in England experienced breakthrough success in the United States.

British Invasion

The arrival of The Beatles in the U.S., and
subsequent appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show,
marked the start of the British Invasion.

 Beatlemania

Beatlemania is a term that originated during the 1960s
describing the intense fan frenzy
directed toward British rock/pop band The Beatles
during the early years of their success.

The members of the original Beatles band brought to the group their own unique talents. Did you know the initial line-up is not the same as the final line-up that went on to make history?

Original Beatles (Click each name for biographical info on wikipedia.)
John Lennon - Vocals, guitar, keyboards, harmonica, bass, percussion
Paul McCartney - Vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, drums
George Harrison - Vocals, guitar, sitar, keyboards, bass, ukelele
Pete Best - Vocals, drums
Stuart Sutcliffe - Bass guitar
Final Line-up (Click each name for access to personal websites.)
John Lennon - Vocals, guitar, keyboards, harmonica, bass, percussion
Paul McCartney - Vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, drums
George Harrison - Vocals, guitar, sitar, keyboards, bass, ukelele
Ringo Starr - Vocals, drums, keyboards
While the Beatles were a dominating force of the 60s, they were not alone in the music making history of this decade. Yes, the Beatles were the group responsible for creating the breakthrough and yes, they would go on to become the best-selling rock group of all time. However, other British groups followed close behind including The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Yardbirds, Manfred Mann and Herman's Hermits.

Which of these do you remember?

MORE to come...the spirit has only begun for the classic sounds of the 60s!

And the music goes on beating to the rhythm of the changing times. . .
