Labor Day Weekend

We celebrate Labor Day as a federal holiday on the first Monday in September, the last holiday of the summer: wearing white will go out, school will be in and a change in season is just around the corner. Do you know how it came about, what it means, its founder, establishment of the first Labor Day? In other words, what is The History of Labor Day? What is it celebrating? Is it a day of labor or a day of rest in celebration of a year's labor or something more perhaps entirely different?
In short,. . .

Labor Day celebrates the American worker.

How is Labor Day celebrated?

The Labor Day celebration exploits the backyard barbeque, much like the Fourth of July, with patriotic decorations dominating the scene. Since its inception in the 1880s it celebrates a means of honoring workers for all their efforts. In that spirit, the backyard barbeque is often laden with hammocks, comfortable lounge chairs, lawn blankets and even lots of huge pillows! Tiki torches, twinkle lights and candles in hurricane lamps keep the atmosphere cheery and bright until well into the evening. For some areas of the country, this holiday brings with it a slight chill in the air, which might warrant that first sweater or jacket of the season.

Whatever you have planned, whether you are traveling, reached your destination, or simply staying at home, have a safe and enjoyable holiday! Remember America's past and the sacrifices for her freedom. Otherwise, there would be no Labor Day celebration.

What are your plans for celebration?

    1. True! But also for those inside the US that only think of this day as a picnic and barbeque!

    1. It is always good to know what we are celebrating! It is so strange. When I was in school, my least favorite subject was history. Now I absolutely cannot learn enough, especially about America!

  8. Thank you, Sharla! Of course I am late reading this, but interesting nonetheless. I spent the day in 100+ heat helping my husband cut trees. So here in Central Texas we don't put away the white.... ever! Which is okay by me too! And we barbeque into the winter, which is about ten days long and then it is summer again, so see why the whites shouldn't be put away? Loved your post!
